Braxfield Road
SAM Architects have been appointed to remodel and extend the ground floor of a Victorian house to create a large, open plan kitchen and dining space that looks out across the garden.
The property is located in a typical South London street where the back of the terraced houses are characterised by gabled projections shared between two houses.
The design emulates the language of the existing rear extensions by adding a pitched volume, which lowers the mass toward the neighbouring properties while maximising the height of the central space.
The contemporary charred timber cladding distinguishes the addition from its Victorian neighbours. The volume is punctured with large sliding doors and several strategically placed rooflights offering views into the garden and the sky.
