Louis Kahn - Salk Institute Mist
"The first thing that an architect must do is to sense that every building you build is a world of its own, and that this world of its own serves an institution." - Louis Kahn
I knew about the Salk Institute through learning about Louis Kahn from my constant trips to the Kimball Museum. It is a goal of mine to visit all of Kahn's buildings in my lifetime. I arrived at the institution on an early misty morning, and the only company were the custodians on duty. The Salk sits on the coast, where seagulls live. These custodians were on duty to make sure the seagulls didn't leave behind debris. I try to add people to my photographs to give life to the building. Typically I'm chasing light; this time I'm chasing custodians.
