Sanxia Beida Community Center For All Ages
The newly completed Sanxia Beida Community Center for All Ages is located in New Taipei City, Taiwan. A multi-programmed complex designed to house the local police station, early childhood center, elderly day-care center, the local Household Registration Office, community sports center and a public library.
The site is situated amongst high-rise apartment buildings in Sanxia, therefore this Community Complex aims to maximise its park-facing advantage on the western façade by strategically locating its public day-care centers and the library toward the park.
These spaces are designed with floor to ceiling glazing in order to enhance the connection between the building and the park. Parts of the western façade have also been recessed to create covered deck spaces for sun shading, to encourage additional green spaces and to produce additional spatial relationships between the park and the interiors.
The use of brick in the design reflects the traditional building material and construction methods of the local Sanxia area. The brick as a material also acts as a reminder for the public the traditional characteristics of Sanxia community.
The driving concept of this project is the idea of a “living box”. Every space and programmes are designed to allow participation of all age groups. – CTLU Architects: http://www.ctlu.com.tw/showreeldetail.aspx?pcseq=2&cseq=9&seq=56
