Multi-family house, Bottmingen (BL)
Task:
An existing single-family house from the 1950s was to be replaced with a new building, which would utilise the full building potential of the site. Legal requirements as well as forest line which builds northern border of the property were to be taken into consideration. The property is accessible via a narrow gateway on the southern side.
Solution:
The result is a multi-family house for two to three families. Typical for this building is the separation between the plinth (ground floor) which contains parking and entrance and is partly embedded in the slope, and the residential area above. The residential part consists of two full-sized floors and an attic floor.
Thanks to large sliding windows, that can be fully hidden within the recessed walls, winter garden and garden form a continuous space blurring the spatial transition between inside and outside. In contrast to the transparent front side stand the solid back facades enclosing the bedrooms and the staircase.
Wooden coverings in the apartments and wintergarden, wooden windows as well as the wooden planks of the garage front contrast the cool concrete facade, emphasising the residential character of the building.
