As part of the last design week in Paris, KIDP, a Korean design promotional institute, has called on Kristen De La vallière founder of Say_Hi_To to form and coordinate a creative team to create a pop up shop in the heart of the Marais, at 12 rue des filles du calvaire. The scenography of this project was entrusted to Ubalt and Christopher Dessus, architects in Paris.
The scenography of this Korean pop-up shop seeks to question the manufacturing process of the object.
The project is read through 3 materials of industrial origin expressing 3 instants of the creation. The floor is covered with gravel, the displays are made of reproofed BA13 and the bubble wrap. The very form of the objects created evokes advancement, an evolving space for an ephemeral exhibition: the roller, the staircase, the gravel disseminated throughout the space.
In the center of the staircase, extends the opening of the door and the
external opening. Its ridges of coating are deliberately left visible. His twin is placed next to the wall waiting for his nalization. These two objects, coming out of prototypes will be used to present the products.
Rolls of bubble wrap, suspended from the ceiling evoke the unwinding and can allow to modify the envelope of the scenography. 3 of them, presented behind the window show a background to the signage while disrupting the perception of the exhibition. In the evening they will send a pink light back into the street. The mass of gravel on the ground is arranged randomly. His physiognomy will change with each passing of the visitor.
When contemporary Korean design is at the intersection of crafts and industry, 12 rue des Filles du Calvaire takes on the face of an alternative workshop, narrating moments of production and able to evolve during the 3 weeks of the exhibition.
The strips of bubble wrap can be more or less unrolled, they can be cut to become the packaging of the objects sold, the visitor leaving with a part of the scenography. e manufacturing process extends in some way up to the moment of exposure at the time of purchase, the object thus completed continues its cycle.
