NEW SINGLE-FAMILY HOUSE IN APPENZELLERLAND, SWITZELRAND
Location and setting
The single-family house is located on the edge of the forest and directly adjoins an agricultural area. The building blends naturally into the existing topography of the hillside location, affording an exceptional view of Lake Constance and the city of St. Gallen.
Idea and conceptual design
The single-family house consists of the concrete base on the ground floor and a dark timber construction on the upper floor. With its expansive glazing, the upper floor embraces the special location and the breathtaking view, and features a spacious living space with a pitched roof of up to 4.5 meters ceiling height and an open-plan kitchen and dining area. Adjoining rooms and bathrooms are located on each floor at the rear of the building. The children's room and the office are on the ground floor, the parents' bedroom is on the upper floor.
Design and choice of materials
The anthracite-coloured timber façade underscores the sculptural character of the building with its roof and sunshades of the same colour. The incoming sunlight fills the bright interiors with soft, natural lighting. The bedrooms are dominated by muted colours such as aubergine, slate and silt. The roof is constructed out of prefabricated timber elements; the light natural finish is visible in the interior.
