The site of Heinrich-Heine University, Düsseldorf, is dominated by four- to six-story concrete buildings from the 1970s. The new Oeconomicum building between the university library and medical faculty, directly at the university’s concourse, marked the beginning of a general refurbishment of the university site, including modernization and new building developments; the building became the university’s new landmark. The Oeconomicum lies at one end of the library forecourt, forming its boundary with its side facade. The lake, which previously was inaccessible, is now flanked by an inviting wooden terrace which serves as a meeting point on the campus.
