The Golden Atrium
Pamukkale Landscape Observatory
RETHINKING COMPETITIONS
Honorable Mention
The Golden atrium emerges from the travertine and limestone natural formations as a complementary element of the “cotton white castle” of Pamukkale.
The natural structures, motives and materiality of the landscape are translated into specific architectural details. As it happens naturally on the site, boundaries are defined by thermal water surfaces and floor depressions.
The programatic layout derives from the combination of mathematically proportioned circles in plan, and the excavation of the related arched volumes into a curvilinear solid element.
The atrium serves as dynamic access to multipe core areas, addressing the complex variation of the site's altimetry.
