The project consists on the refurbishment of this old Ensanche penthouse. Back in the early 20th century, the penthouse was occupied by the doorman house and other building facilities.
The layout is conceived as an open space so to communicate both façades, structured by a sequence of functions; kitchen-bar-access hall-dining room-living room.
On one side, a thick wall will contain both cupboard and kitchens furniture, as well it will connect to the bedroom.
There`s an special care and effort in the living room and the little tribune that works as a couch. In order to free the living room, this is pushed outwards and appears as bow-window in the terrace.
The old water tank located on the roof has been included as part of the house. The access to this extra bedroom is through a new steel staircase.
In order to achieve a unifying discourse regarding materials, the original floor tiles have been restored. The old plaster of one of the walls has been removed to discover the original masonry, and the original carpentry has been restored. The new materials were chosen to blend in, for that purpose natural materials were used, like Oakwood, placed both in floors and walls. The aim of the project was to create a cohesive intervention, respecting the emphasis of the original features.
