Avocado Acres House
In my recent Avocado Acres project I collaborated with architect Lloyd Russell to realise a home inspired by LA’s famed Case Study Houses as well as another of my key inspirations, Japanese minimalism. This project is all about the roof; a sloping curved structure that unifies the U-plan’s three pavilions. These spaces open out onto the central courtyard letting the outside in and vice versa.
Yet despite the roof’s dramatic expression, it’s the clerestory windows that define the overall scheme. They lighten the robust concrete walls, amplify the internal spatial volume and elegantly allow another visual connection with outside. It’s a
healthy home perfect for a modern family.
