A Sandeira Lumière
This is the second A Sandeira café, resulting from the client’s intention to expand the business. The starting point of the intervention was finding a common identity between this and the original café, which we had finished some time previously.
However, the characteristics of the building where this café is located, constructed in the second half of the 20th century, are completely different to those of the other building, which is far older. Besides, the shopping centre specified certain rules which had to be followed, particularly the light grey tone of the walls and floor. The project involved combining these constraints with the beautiful but distressed timber elements used in the previous project. The sterile, homogenous colour partially hides the texture of the panelling, just as in Ai Weiwei’s colourful vases.
