Motor’s Shop
The project is located on a corner lot on a wide avenue of a commercial corridor.
The commission arises from the owner's need to move anengine’s shop located elsewhere in the city with the purpose of adding square meters to the exhibition room and achieve better accessibility.
The structure is solved with concrete columns and block masonry on the two median sides and metal columns and light enclosures on the two free faces. The cover is made of self-supporting sheet metal mounted on reticulated beams with metal profiles. The need for use demanded that the storage area be similar to the area of the sales room, this leaded to the first functional decision, longitudinally divide the intervened surface. In the sales room, it appears mounted on columns, a prism that contains the administrative area of the company, leaving the ground floor and much of the double height free. This allows it to project the free and autonomous volume image, almost floating over the space. The original idea, on a project that can be considered ordinary, has been to try that with the singularity of the architecture arise the added value in its image.
For this we thought of a unique volume with three well-marked gestures:
- To fill with the space ceded to the chamfer, it was decided to give a slight inclination to the entire north façade.
- To decompose the horizontal edges of this large volume, in curves.
- To differentiate the treatment of façades according to their orientation and use. The longitudinal (west) with double enclosure, one internal with structural glass that runs all the length of the premises and another external metallic that acts like filter, materialized with plates of painted zinc plates, some micro-perforated, allowing the play of lights as much diurnal as nocturnal. Opposite to this one, the north façade appears almost all transparent materialized with glass and containing the two entrances.
Volumetric simplicity that translates in forceful in the implantation, maximum expressiveness with few resources, low maintenance in the choice of the materials, flexibility in the use, recurrent premises followed by the Study whose eloquence is exposed in this different corner...
