Casa Chacala
An empty site in front of the Pacific Ocean waits for the arrival of a “Palapa”. This vernacular structure, which is accomplished by weaving trunks and palms, was as much as an imposition to the project as an opportunity. Among other qualities as the crafted production and its thermal insulator, it allows the visual continuity of the landscape when it raises from the ground by wooden columns in a free floor manner.
Let’s imagine then a tissue conformed by a weft. This formal act is the principle in which this waterfront house was conceived: a structure that can be understood as a grid that organizes the the empty space.
At the Pacific, facing the western sea, it is desired not to interrupt with planes the landscape view in order to see the horizon. It is for this reason that this project does not rises from walls. It is defined as a habitable structure that closes or opens itself in response of the program requirements, as a pile-dwelling manner.
