London College of Fashion Roof Garden
London College of Fashion asked Studio Weave to bring a forgotten roof terrace back into use in time for London Festival of Architecture 2014.
From the architect - The rooftop has a fantastic view over Oxford Street but was completely underused. Our proposal creates a flexible space and makes the existing view of London more accessible to the college. The design makes reference to the textile history of the fashion institution, with a multi-coloured serge pattern deck. Due to a very tight budget and the only site access through a tiny lift, we used standard decking boards, cut and stained in happy, loud colours and configured in a basketweave pattern, which rises to form seats and planters.
