Arkxsite competition entry - Site Sanctuary
Seen from above the project appears like a perfect square linked to two strong territory elements (big boulders and the arch) by a path. The proposal is formed by 3 walls which create sequences relationed with the site and emphasizes the experience of it. It creates a tension between the geometric manmade concrete walls and the rocky, rugged nature.
The path start as a stair, that invites the protagonist to pass behind the first wall that cut his view from horizon and confront him to the mountain. At the end of the this path appears the two other walls, which form the entrance that articulates all the program. Through this space the visitors can go instantly to historical chamber or to the sanctuary.
The Sanctuary is accessible by an introspective path that leads vistors quietly into the mountain. The rocks filter the light and appear like a phenomenologic element that invites to meditate and gives divine dimension to the sanctuary. A big round hole opens to the sky and invite the visitor to enter the light and have a spiritual introspection surrounded by the mountain.
The history chamber opens to the landscape and offer to the visitor a new point of view of the site while learning about the history of it.
The proposal is a research on how to intervent minimally (with 3 walls and a slab) in a site like this while offering a different experience of it (interiorisation). It’s an humble intervention that emphasizes the existing elements.
