Reconstruction of Vehicle Grand Garage
The Grand Garage,located in the high-tech zone in Ankang City, southern Shaanxi Province, was originally constructed in the year of 1969 and has been served for areas around since then. As time changes, the busy garage became nothing but a wasteland in the beginning of the new century.Its life was hanging by a threadand whether to remain or to be removed had become a dilemma. Meta-artisan Atelier took the planning design of the garage area in 2015.The proposal was to maintain part of the existing buildingsas a design basis and conduct appropriate transformation, extension and interior upgrade as a further step. With 2years’effort in design and construction, the old garage was given the chance of rebirth.
The renovation was developed in site planning, space organizing, interior decoration as well as landscape design. To maintain the wildness and nature of the original garage, the renovation adopts plain brick walls as spatial division, black pipes, cement slab and wood surface as interior design elements. The pixelated modular design in the waterscape and greening in the garden brought a sense of fun additionally.
With the entering of Ankang Taste, a local restaurant brand, the new garage area now providesmultiple services for dining, entertainment, leisure and banquet, creatinga bustling place for recreation for citizens in Ankang. The grand garage has been regenerated.(Translator: Qian Lu)
