VILLA MONESCIA
With the forests of the Monte Verita to its back and the Lake Maggiore to its front, the two-storey building is situated in the lush vegetation on the top of a narrow site.
The horizontally articulated volume is arranged along the topogrophy lines on dry stone walls, which terrace the existing slope. The staircases, which are guided by walls, make the building accesible and interlink the garden patios located on different levels.
The solid, double-wall base gives the house its solidness and refers in material and color to the dry stone walls. The facade of the upper floor breaks with this earthy materialization. In addition to generous sliding doors with aluminum frames, fields with fine plaster are placed inbetween. A protective and shade providing metal roof cantilevers generously beyond the facade.
The internal as well as the external spatial and structural organization is arranged to connect or enhance the contrasting features and conditions of the surrounding front and back. Open and interlinking spatial sequences are in contrast to the smaller, single-sided sleeping spaces.
The carefully conceived connection between the hill and the valley side also generates a natural ventilation, which is further enhanced by roof windows.
The exterior and interior offer a wide range of different spaces for the individual needs of the consistently changing residents.
The spacious, covered seating area, which also connects to a separately accessed guest area, forms the heart of the vacation residency. It is the point of arrival, accomodation and leisure in one.
