INTERPRETATIVE CENTRE - MIRÓBRIGA ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE
The siting of the building and surrounding spaces link up to the nature of the site and its topography. The design seeks to interpret the extraordinary archeological site and the landscape. Visitors are led to the entrance by means of the pathway which rises to the height of the veranda. The volume built – modular – rises from the ground in an equilibrium giving onto the ruins and the landscape, using the veranda along its entire length. It is protected, in the main elevation, by great doorways in wood veneers. The courtyards of the units inserted mid-way into the slope, in the rear elevation, are used for the service and support areas. The exhibition for visitors, organised in the area to the north, enclosed, uses shafts of black light in black display cases, illuminating a number of the pieces found during the digs. The new, external walls re-utilise Roman stone from unidentified rubble, cut in long support plans and referral. They are the result of a reflection on perennity, revealing the patina, colour and texture of the stone, the result of the time gone by since it was first used.
