Casa Libertad
The Casa Libertad project consists of the remodeling of a house located in the Yungay neighborhood, in a typical and historical conservation area of the Center of Santiago de Chile.
This promoted the idea of maintaining the spirit of the building through the conservation of its destiny and scale, trying to revitalize it through discreet operations that would mean substantial modifications.
The house was in poor condition, and its distribution did not work well in terms of the current standards of living and comfort that every home should count on. Based on this, the objectives that would determine the project were defined.
The main objective was to improve the living conditions of the house, therefore it was decided to modify the distribution of spaces to illuminate and ventilate each one of them.
It was proposed to move the corridor towards the middle and eliminate a bedroom in order to multiply the patios. By illuminating and ventilating all the enclosures and introducing the main circulation to the interior of the house, the space was opened to a more organic and harmonious route, as it was previously accessed to the back of the house by the patio.
A design that would allow the flexibility of the building program was proposed, considering a line of possible expropriation of 3 meters to the interior of the house, which was manifested in the position of the kitchen facing the patio so that the house can work in the same way in case the building front is expropriated.
Finally, it is decided to illuminate the main hall by means of a central skylight that receives light from the east, being this the main element in the luminary hierarchy of the space, finishing off the circulation of the house.
