The name of the project has been Sleeping Beauty ever since competition stage. Nomen est omen: The old, somewhat decrepit houses were kissed awake and transformed into an up to date nursery and day-care center. Even though the houses were classified as „worth preserving“, a demolition would principally have been permitted. However, the client’s space requirements appeared to work well with the existing structures. So why demolish something that could readily be adapted to meet the new needs?
Dependent on the state of the structure, the existing rooms were furbished up according to monument preservation criteria, or contemporarily reinterpreted. Both chronicles were not played off against each other - they rather build a mutual complement. New components are perceptible, yet they blend in naturally with the existing elements. The slightly enchanted touch of the outdoor areas was gently enhanced.
Natural quality materials were used. Daily childcare can now take place in a homelike atmosphere. Great attention was given to convenient details, storage space, cabinets and furniture.
