Copenhagen Library
The main concept of the architectural strategy for the new Copenhagen library 2.0 is meant to regain a new Identity for the city: a new building interacting with the urban context through its cultural and social content. The new building represents the most important aspects of the lifestyle of Copenhagen. The conviviality on the roads, the wonderful relationship with urban gardens, the relationship with the water that comunicates with its copper facade are just some of the features of this city that at, the same time, the library summarizes in its characteristics.
The main concepts are:
1 - The ground floor designed like a public urban space - the 360° entrance allows a complete interaction with the surroundings context and the garden, both inside and outside, eliminates the boundary of the building, inviting the citizens to get in.
2- The main room 2.0 - a large room capable of merging together the traditional library system with the new 2.0 system. The library becomes able to interact with users. It communicates thanks to a number of facilities such as large cubes suspended informing people of events and many news.
3 - The vertical square - this is an environment where people can spend their time and have conversations heated by fireplaces integrated into the wall. A great ladder system allows interaction between the different floors creating the “vertical system”.
4 - The winter garden - two greenhouses covering the roof along with an outdoor terrace. This area is the main function of the energetic concept.
