Adapting the building to today’s security and comfort norms, offering a powerful work tool and revisiting the image of the establishment, are the primary challenges of this project. The existing building is wrapped in isolation, covered by perforated corrugated steel.
This façade cladding unveils the building and plays with the light in the same way as tulle in the theatre world. This veil confers a contemporary and unified expression to the façade whose initial grid has been reinterpreted.
The central body is raised to offer an ergonomic spatiality for the stage. A covered exterior gallery is created to connect the side wings and provide a sheltered entrance to both main halls. Every interior intervention aims to value the existing volumes as well as maintain the raw industrial character of the building. The theater’s front square, relieved of its parking spaces, is redefined with a simple plan, enhanced by the lightwork “ÜBERFLUX” designed by plastic artist Sophie Guyot.
