Terra e Cielo
The challenge was to build a sacred Architecture in Senegal. We choose to give them a common language to build an Architecture. Simplify, therefore, a constructive system to reach a unique element, reproducible, which aspires to something more complex in its own aggregation
Simple, Rudimental, Union, Matter. Beginning from the concept of Community linking these populations, we choose to give them a common language to build an Architecture. Simplify, therefore, a constructive system to reach a unique element, reproducible, which aspires to something more complex in its own aggregation . A cross-shaped element, created by Bamboo wood, which is suggested again and embedded to create an ephemeral structure. Initially, the structure serves for the auto construction supporting the clay dome, then as a continuation and protection of the same, tending to the sky and creating an image of dematerialization of the build.
Introspective, Individual, Spiritual. A clay architecture, deriving from the study of the classic Tolek, "molded" as a vase, free, that separates and harmoniously combines spaces, intimately, enclosed, allowing distinct spots light to leak from plastic bottles (local waste placed in the ceiling) to generate a unique place where "every faithful has his own way".
The Architectural artifact keeps the spiritual intent strong melting with the Divine, a material perception that is bringing the lightness of being able to look through it without occupying the context. Internally, the heart, "a hypogeum cave on the surface" that borns from Mother Earth, preserves a spiritual and safe place, with its soft light, protected from the outside view.
Surveying, therefore, that looks far beyond a product, of which dense structural intertwining is rooted in the arid soil of a population that is looking for a meeting point through the Faith, precisely, between “Terra e Cielo” .
Earth and Sky characterize the scenic African landscape, and it is our intention to establish a natural fusion with Sedhiou's landscape without altering its authenticity: a place with a strongly rooted culture, a parallel world out of the logic of globalization, the difficult finding of those materials which characterize contemporary architectures.
