The starting point for the building design was the standard 2521-concept, in consequence the pool is situated on the first floor. The swimming hall is divided into 3 zones: the 25m pool, the instruction/therapy pool and a toddler/preschooler corner consisting of shallow pools and spray elements. These zones can be physically separated from each other, which generates various operating configurations.
The distribution of the additional functions in two lower wings on the ground floor and the preservation of the canopy result in a powerful volume in which the different functions are recognizable. Two horizontal strips of fibre reinforced concrete in a sandstone colour mark the rooflines of the ground floor and first floor. The band between these strips is filled up with vertical panels (also fibre reinforced concrete) on the ground floor and a metal cladding on the first floor. Big glass windows provide daylight in the building and vertical louvres guarantee privacy in the sauna garden. The interior is dominated by the wooden prefab roof elements, complemented with natural colours. A contrasting bright colour will be used for signage to give the interior a contemporary feeling.
The placement of the building on the plot creates a big sauna garden on the eastside. In this sauna garden we designed both a sauna and a technical pavilion. The placement and design of the building also allows for further development on the site such as a 7 floor hotel.
