The triangular plot calls for two building types: a first series laid out along Boulevard Pierre Frieden, with a second formed from three five-storey blocks along the shorter sides. To adapt to the site’s height difference on the boulevard side, the lower floor levels provide dual aspect small houses with a garden between ground floor level and garden level. These are crowned by large apartments on the upper floors. The project separates the relationship to the street – treated as smooth and introverted – from the relationship to the heart of the plot which has large balconies giving onto it on the southern side. In the centre of the garden, small buildings, each containing two housing units per floor level, offer housing conditions similar to those of individual family homes. The block’s interior landscape offers easy transitions through to the public space and provides residents with small structures in the middle of the private garden (pergolas, vegetable gardens).
