The house is located on Paseo Lluís Companys in Barcelona, in a building from 1940 whose facade follows a classic criteria of architectural composition. Our intervention is on the last floor where the windows are not square-shaped anymore and are resolved as semicircular arches. This peculiarity was interpreted as the basic form-finding principle of the interior organisation and in this way rhythm and spatial order are given to the especially long space of the existing flat. The entire program is organized around a thick interior façade, that develops the typology of the arches into vaults. The permeability of the space that is generated in this way, permits the free flow of natural light between the three façades. This scheme optimizes the installation of acclimatization, electricity and water facilities and provides storage cells for all the rooms. Also the laundry, the high kitchen modules and the toilet are placed in the same volume. Moreover, it creates a correlation to the pre-existing architectural heritage and at the end paradoxically, it converts the exterior facade into a result of what happens in the interior.
A transversal interconnection between the rooms is created by the usage of double doors that emphasizes the close relation between the adjacent spaces.
The rooms of common use, living-dining-kitchen, find their place at one end and the bedrooms at the other. The bathrooms and the toilet are grouped in a single piece, that works as a filter and main articulation between the living area and the bedrooms area. This piece is easily transformable from a large area of a bath and a toilet to two separate bathrooms and a separate toilet that is hidden in the width of the "aqueduct".
Two rooms for children orbit around the bathroom core. One of them is temporarily furnished with cushions, and it could be easily adapted for different usages- game room, guest room or TV room.
The whole intervention is deployed between the monumental and the domestic aspect without forgetting the basic needs of any kind of intervention in the housing field.
