DAEDALOON
Daedalus […] praepetibus pennis ausus se credere caelo.
De Apollinis Templo (6.9-42), liber VI, Eneide
Inspiration (n.)
“immediate influence of God or a god”, from Late Latin inspirationem (nominative inspiratio), noun of action from past participle stem of Latin inspirare “blow into, breathe upon”.
For the ancient thinkers, inspiration was a point where the thoughts of men touched and merged with the infinity of God. A rise, a suspension, an honour for the chosen few. While in the ancient times the sky had a two-dimensional connotation, nowadays it is everywhere around us, and everyone can feel the infinity and greatness of the polydimensional Universe, right beyond the houses’ roofs and walls. In other words, the inspiration is no longer a point in the middle of two extremes, but a sphere of unlimited connections between man and everything else, a planet upon which the thinker becomes his own centre of gravity and is able to see the whole cosmos.
Daedaloon is an inspiration, a planet, a peaceful retreat, a place upon which breath. It comes from humans, takes shape from squares, substance from Universe, and rises above the cities. The inspiration is for everyone, so is Daedaloon. Like a shell that produces pearls from grains of sand, the inspiration planet takes nourishment from the information overload of urban life and returns artworks and a view towards infinity to the citizens.
Following the natural process of inspiration shapes the internal configuration of the sphere. In this sense, it works as an “inspiration machine” that filters all the inputs coming from the outside and generates in his final phase ideas and artworks.
Daedaloon does not avoid the incessant motion of urban life, instead absorbs from it all the raw material composed by sounds and images.
Inside the spherical envelope information are captured and processed.
Thanks to the work, collaboration and knowledge the data are unravelled, catalogued, and finally sublimated. In the centre there is the core, filled with absolute ascetic silence, where the only waves that modify the space are those of velvety overhead light, the breath of God, the breath of Universe.
The ideas are reflected in artworks of all kinds, and then returned to the city. They are exhibited or performed in the square, below the sphere, and themselves become a source of inspiration for the passer, in an infinite echo.
Centre of Universe
The ancient meaning of inspiration, as the point of connection between human and divine, is reinterpreted as a sphere of infinite points of connection between human and the whole Universe.
Inspiration Machine
The observation of the external world absorbs chaotic information. Exercise, cooperation, knowledge process and digest them. Silence and meditation produce inspiration. It is spread over the city in the form of art.
Gradations
Sonorous gradation from urban chaos to absolute silence.
Visual gradations from overload details to a neutral space.
Social gradation from community urban life to ascetic and meditative solitude.
Urban Prototype
Daedaloon is born as a replicable adaptable prototype. Its dimensions are shaped by the square, or urban gathering centre, that it fills. The chosen city is Udine, a small Italian town located near Venice, as a symbol of versatility of the inspiration planet. Here is notable how Daedaloon, in his minimum size, can be properly insert inside a tiny ordinary city, as in the greatest capitals of the World.
