Innovation Factory
The company B. Braun is a globally operating medical corporation. One of its subsidiaries, Aesculap AG, produces in particular orthopedic and surgical products. The Innovation Factory comprises a new production area, administrative area and social rooms. The thesis of good industrial planning, according to Wilford Schupp Architects, is realized here: minimal land consumption due to intelligent vertical organization of production the area, interlocking of city and landscape due to park areas, optimal traffic flows of people and goods and the flexibility for further expansion.
The design of the facades, the material concept and the design vocabulary are an expression of its corporate culture. The masterplan includes the idea for a campus with various buildings in a complex structure, which is sensibly linked through park areas and pathways.
At the centre of the facility are communal areas, for example the canteen. The main artery of the building is a twolevel circulation building, which allows pedestrian flow, as well as the transportation of goods. Various options for
expansion are also possible.
In Aesculap’s factory metal products are manufactured, such as containers for
surgical instruments. This is reflected in the façade and its materials.
Concrete, metal sheets and glass ensure the durability and low maintenance of the façade.
The purity of materials emulates hygiene and sterile production of the medical
technology. The material concept and the design vocabulary of the building
are an in keeping with the identity of the corporate culture.
