CYCLING AND PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY
Cycling and pedestrian walkway between two of the large parks that form the so-called “Valladolid Green Corridor".
Two of the large parks that form the so-called “Valladolid Green Corridor”: Las Contiendas and Villa del Prado parks, are drastically separated by a high-traffic road that runs between the two.
Although both parks have a large number of users: walkers, runners and cyclists, this main road prevents a continuous green corridor, reducing its structuring value within the metropolitan green network.
The Cycling and Pedestrian Walkway is born as a solution to this problem: a bridge over the road that links the two large parks, creating a route for cyclists and pedestrians between the two green spaces.
The Walkway spans 62 metres and has a width of 4 metres, allowing a fluid flow of pedestrians and cyclists between both sides.
The Walkway structure is wrapped in a skin of galvanized steel expanded metal mesh with different openings, giving it the intended appearance of a metallic ingot resting on the ground, glowing in the distance like a silver brooch in a green velvet coat.
Depending on the position of the sun and the perspective of the observer, the galvanized steel skin is opaque or transparent and incorporates openings in the lower part of the walkway that reveal its internal structure.
