Refurbishment of two flats

The commission consisted in the renovation of two flats located in a building from the the 60's on Padilla street in Barcelona. While one is located on the first floor and overlooks the interior courtyard of the building plot, the other is on the fifth floor and it is facing the street.
Initially both of the flats were heavily compartmentalized and most of the rooms lacked light and ventilation. Considering the opportunities of the spatial configuration, the new distribution brings together two toilets and all the storage in a central core which allows the orientation of the rooms to the façade and the courtyards, and like this better light and ventilation could be achieved. In this way the bedrooms are resolved as interconnected spaces, which responds to the demand for flexibility of the use, that we initially received.
Both of the flats can easily be adapted to the needs of the inhabitant (1 suite + studio + living room, 2 bedrooms + studio + living room, or 3 bedrooms + living room) opening or closing doors to change the configuration.
