XIS _ LAMP
XIS_LAMP is part of a range of objects in latex for domestic lighting. The first prototype, XIS_lamp(XIS comes from xistorra-a traditional catalan red sausage) is an ambient lamp that can adapt to the space in which is located.
The fundamental intention of the project is to find a simple form, "malleable" and intuitive to manipulate light. In working with latex we tried to use mechanical solutions accessible to all, in exchange for a broader, serial production. Low-tech materials such as the basic latex tube are often overlooked, but with minimal technical skills can turn into something unusual.
The lamp is made out of a single material, a continuous latex tube, "woven" with fishing wire, which generates the coiled shape of a sphere(sewing technique mostly used in basketry). The bottom of the sphere is "cut out" in order that the lamp can provide, besides the ambient orange light, also direct light. The dimmer switch lever is taken and reused from a garden hose. The light bulb is a white 60W energy saving bulb that prevents the lamp from heating. XIS_lamp can be used as an ambient light in the living room next to a reading table, dining room, hanging from the ceiling, the floor or on the terrace.
