Hotel Bleston Court Private Cottage
This cottage was planned as the guesthouses belong to the Karuizawa Kogen Church.
The building constitution, such as the monastery which is surrounded courtyards, aims to make the person, who visited the church at wedding ceremonies as a turning point of the life, reflect one’s life and oneself and one’s partner.
Courtyard
Three courtyards are inserted to the forest in front of the church, intended to be “A small garden in the big garden”. The guest rooms are displayed facing the white-stone courtyard and the guests meet it whenever they go in and out of the room. This courtyard consists of only white-floor and black-wall as two planes, with only three rowans having color and form. The white floor is made of marble lithographs and white stones, and the black wall is made of thin iron plates with small holes scattered at random. This small courtyard talks with the outside forest through this hole.
Guest room
The guest rooms are the white space with about 4 meters height. For the purpose to make guests feel released, the daily elements are deleted except two chairs and a table. It is often that a guest room is a room only to sleep, but the bed in this room becomes the "storeroom" model bed of the 2 meters corner to keep away from eyes and consciousness of the hotel guests. To the left hand of the entrance, it is put a bathtub as the art object in the white space over about 4 meters height glass windows. In the other side, the lavatory and the restroom are shut up in a white box.
The scenery of trees through a slim window cut on the white wall may be the only daily-life element.
This guesthouse is the space for guests to feel the past and the future with non-everyday relaxation.
