Pausa Bar
Our plot was an old travel agency in Porto city centre, which was converted into a bar. With 120 sq. meters, this small bar pretends to offers a relaxing atmosphere where clients can drink smooth cocktails or enjoy a light meal.
With two main sitting areas, one close to the entrance and another at the back, where a skyligth emerges and lights the room. The facade can be opened like a street extension bringing an exterior feeling to the entrance area, and a movable part of the bar can be placed in the facade, so it became possible to attend costumers directly from the street.
At the back a boundary wall was designed as a furniture piece, playing with panels and creating a dynamic solid wood grid, where some showcases stands out with regional products. The skylight is aligned with this wall so it provides daylight to the plants that stands on the shelves. A concrete floor full of texture contrasts with a black ceiling, and the walls are painted in light grey with few ornamental elements. Wood and plants were essential elements in this interior design composition, creating a tropical atmosphere. The aim was to create a flexible space with displaceable furniture allowing multiple kinds of events and uses.
