D HOUSE
The house settles at the center of a rectangle sketched by the implantation prospect of the site.
It sits on the north skirt of the plot as to clear a substantial part of the south grounds.
The project’s design draws on an effort to build an energy efficient, compact house while at the same time working towards a modern intake of quality interior spaces.
The project overturns the standard of the idealized modern house often designed as a combination of branches, each defined by a specific spatial experience, frame and orientation. A design both wasteful of space and resources. Our project’s challenge is to offer just as much spatial diversity and qualities whilst keeping a simple compact volume.
One can read the project as a weaving, over two levels, of thin structural volumes hosting distribution and service spaces, the crossing and overlapping of which defines not only the primary spaces of the house such as the living room, kitchen, entry, bedrooms and so forth,… but also creates viewpoints on the garden and surrounding landscapes.
The apertures of the house where designed not only with a strong intent to offer remarkable outwards frames, but also with a careful consideration as to proportions and order between the different windows and orientations.
For that reason, the house appears quite closed on its north side whilst on the south its façade is vastly hollowed out by intimate loggias.
