A+P House
At a breathtaking prospect situation in Meilen (Canton Zurich), a vertically developed house was built.
The stairs, which from the ground floor to the roof terrace connect six levels, are designed as a free hand library using different galleries. Around this "tower of books" lie the connected rooms. Thus every room, wether the living room, the bathroom, the office room or the kitchen, can be used as a reading area in addition to its original function. An inhabitable library was created. To emphasize the importance of books even more, the ceiling above the tower of books is covered by a coating of gold in analogy to historical paintings. The staircase is thereby transformed into a precious repository for the books.
It is possible to read off the outward volume of the tower through it's cubic effect. This effect is amplified by the framed window fronts facing different directions. Finally, similarly to an ornamented jewel case the whole volume is spanned by fine wooden slats and combined to represent a sculptural form.
