House in Hachikenya
This house is located in the outskirt of Fukuyama city. Originally this area was a rural area characterized by rice field cultivation, but gradually it turned into a residential area. The site project lost his original identity and now only the road traces the old grid of rice fields. However in this location is still possible to be pleased from a fully open sky and from the view of the mountain in the distance.
Client request was to have at least three bedrooms plus another bedroom for guests and one office space.
Using a three meters grid I decided to set two cross wall in order to create all necessary divisions. The particularity of this house is that these very small partitions represent the whole structural system of the house. Crossing walls works against the horizontal thrusts, meanwhile the combination of 50mm steel pillars with sash react against the vertical one.
Despite this division of the space is possible to experience a fully open space sensation thanks to the detail on the wood doors that slide inside the concrete wall. In this way client can modify his living space depending on his necessity.
The balance between the plan layout and structural elements brings order to the space and to client’s life.
