House in Ushita Naka
This house is located in a residential area of Hiroshima City, close to the Hiroshima train terminal.
For this specific location my first intention was to create a difficulty for the outside viewer.
From the outside it becomes unclear to guess the internal organization of this house.
This house has only one big opening in the front facade.
Despite of the uncommon dimensions of this window the inside privacy is fully guaranteed.
In the first floor the windowsill is set at 2.3 meters from the street level, meanwhile in the second floor a small terrace works as a buffer zone between the inside room and the outside space.
A specific request from client’s wife was to have a space where she could receive students for her piano lessons.
For this reason the plan layout is the same in the first and the second floor, presenting a living room area in both floors.
However the perception of the space completely changes thanks to a different ceiling height.
A more open and wide feeling was given to the living area of the first floor in order to create a good acoustic quality suitable for the piano.
