House in Innoshima
This house is situated in Innoshima Island, in the beautiful scenery of the Seto Inland Sea.
The site directly faces a small fishermen’s port and the main road of this island.
The main intention for this house was to give the possibility to a simple concrete box to express a high sense of porosity.
I decided to create a series of semi-outdoor environments.
These buffer zones are set in both sides, in order to keep a distance with the road and the port.
Here every level of the house has an inside-outside court facing the seaside.
All these semi-outdoor areas are visibly connected to each other.
Thanks to this operation the interior living space spreads to the surrounding, creating a strong relation with the outside atmosphere.
These operations of porosity and decomposition of the box were fundamental in order to create a more comfortable feeling.
