House in Chikata
The rural scenery of the outskirt of Fukuyama City is the landscape of this house.
I found very important to intake this rural atmosphere to inside and create a sensation of continuity with the outside.
To achieve this open feeling to the surrounding and guarantee an enough level of privacy I worked with a composition of minimum planes and elements.
First of all the building keeps a precise distance from the road in order to not damage the spatial openness that the site originally possessed.
The living room is set on the second floor keeping a distance from the road and spandrel walls works as screen.
The deep eaves protect the house from the rain and the intrusion of the sunshine, meanwhile sliding doors ensure ventilation and make the interior space as comfortable as a semi-outdoor space.
In this way the border between inside and outside space becomes unclear.
