Perren Street
The project for a house renovation in North London creates a bright and open interior intended to showcase the spaciousness of a converted warehouse fusing old features and new design solutions.
The house is arranged over three floors with the most spectacular living and entertaining spaces. The building is a former late Victorian 1920's piano factory with a Gothic style facade. The spacious interior and the exposed timber and steel structures are visible traces of its industrial past.
The owner asked OPENSYSTEMS to improve its interior layout and finishing accommodating his growing family. In particular, the intervention focuses on re-planning the ground floor hallway and the top floor’s master bedroom, as well as upgrading materials and finishing throughout the house.
The refurbishment brings modern flair to an original North London warehouse. At ground floor the architects designed a new enlarged staircase to mark a more welcoming entrance to the house. The first floor’s main living space was subtly transformed into a state-of–the-art home cinema while its materials and comfort upgraded. At the top floor, the master bedroom was re-designed to accommodate a larger bathroom and a spacious walk-in wardrobe. A free standing bath tub was installed in the master bedroom to highlight the open plan of warehouse living.
A minimal palette of materials was chosen to create a brighter and cleaner feel: natural oak for the floors, lacquered panels for the kitchen and bedroom’s walk-in wardrobes, Carrara marble’s mosaic and ceramic tiles for the bathroom. Fitted cabinets and bespoke built-in furniture were designed to optimise the available space and maximise functionality.
