Office Building for the Public Prosecutor
In the centre of Lelystad, west of the railway station, a new office building for the Public Prosecutor has been realized. Together with the Court and the building of the Child Welfare Council the new building forms a cluster of judicial buildings. The office building for the Public Prosecutor consists of five floors (plus a basement for the archive and facilities) each measuring 18 x 43 meters. The façades are composed of black perforated steel grids of 360 x 90 cm. Behind these grids are shutters for natural ventilation, sunblinds, air ducts, construction and electrical equipment. Incorporated into the horizontal ribbons, behind the perforated steel, are sandwich panels with a shiny surface. These panels reflect the light and the surroundings, creating various moving patterns on the façade. At the front side of the building the grid is disrupted by the entrance and at the back side by the doors to the technical and storage spaces and the 5th floor balcony.
The 5th floor is five meters high. On this floor the restaurant, the conference rooms and the library are situated. The representative spaces on the ground floor and the 5th floor have an oak floor covering. The staircases leading to these floors are also covered with oak. The hallway walls on each of the office floors are made entirely of glass. Because of the use of active concrete lowered ceilings are not needed. The walls separating the rooms are covered with acoustic material. By applying active concrete, heat and cold storage in the ground and climate façades, the building ensures an energy saving of 45% compared to a traditional office building.
