Edificio Poniente 309
This project consists of an architectural rehabilitation of late nineteenth century building, located in downtown Puebla.
This project was made in a three-story building with an area of 208.38 m2, a small terrain compared to juxtaposed lands among the area where this building is located.
The rehabilitation consisted of restructuring the ceiling(original wood beam system cover), collapsed mostly by twenty-three years late owner´s neglect, the rehabilitation resided in new ceiling restructuring on a steel deck, supplied mostly on fifty percent of the building, this restructuring had been made to keep the building’s original reading respect to heights and original spatial distributions.
The first motivation for the restructuring was the nineteenth-century building’s rescue and cataloging for the Anthopology and History National Institute, and the second one was to redensify housing in downtown Puebla. The objective of this project is to adapt five apartments and two commercial premises on the ground floor, to create a mix between housing and market in only one property.
The adequacy of apartments consisted of maintaining the original building´s structure without breaking down the original walls or adding contemporary structure.
There are five different apartments that go from sixty-five squared meters to nine hundred and ten squared meters.
Each apartment is different whether by distribution, surface or different physical and historical characteristic. Additionally, each apartment counts with several movable properties by destiny, like ceilings hand painted, mural painting with art nouveau reminiscence and plaster floral moldings.
The building is distributed across it´s central patio like most historical buildings within historic downtown. The patio was released from a concrete ceiling on the first level so ventilation and natural lighting could be achieved for department one and the two commercial premises on the ground floor. The patio itself achieved a contemporary and neoclassic look at the same time due to new materials. Balcony integration to continue with the building’s original lecture and also by the primeval mural painting and its organic color reintegration.
