Refurbishment of a victorian house, 143 Englefield Road
From Dingy Bedsits to a Luxury Smart Home, 143 Englefield Road presented the age old challenge of marrying contemporary living with a Period Home in the most seamless manner, which was completed in May 2015. The existing Victorian Terrace house was in absolute disarray when it was purchased by Developer client East Eight, and was completely reimagined by Amrita Mahindroo of Droo Projects. The project of the size of 320 sqm is a sensitive refurbishment and extension of the existing period terrace which seeks to integrate all of the aspects of contemporary living into a Period home whilst enhancing the original features of the house. This Luxury 5 Bedroom, 5 Bathroom house boasts the perfect combination between open plan living and the classic Victorian room based design.
The upper ground living room sequence from Period living space to the contemporary AV and Home Cinema room is the perfect example of the transitional flow using a gradient of colour from the darker Period tones to the light contemporary white gallery space of the AV living area.
The lighting in the project has been custom designed for each room and the strong black and white colour palette has been integrated into all of the finer details of joinery, lighting, and window ornamentation.
The beautiful Baulthaup kitchen extends into a superb outdoor garden courtyard with several pockets of intimate hideouts within a coherent whole.
The house feels both expansive and intimate at the same time through the use of paint colours and clever joinery features, which create smaller zones of intimacy in the larger space.
