Casa Acantilado
This site is near Huentelauquen in the north of Chile. The climate here is harsh with cold winters and very dry summers. There is a small period in spring when the landscape comes alive with a wonderful array of desert flowers.
The architecture of the house sees the structure being built below the surface horizon of the cliffs so it is hidden from view on the approach.
To make the architecture blend totally Tere planted the roof with a mix of native vegetation. At the front of the house a triangular headland juts out into the open view, of large expansive beach and the Pacific Ocean. This was covered with soil and silt. Tere realized that the stone beneath was a wonderful russet color and so she cleaned the rock exposing the beautiful textures and colors of the cliffs. Here a wooden path leads one out to a sunken fire pit.
This garden also includes an indoor garden courtyard where Tere worked with railway sleepers and native vegetation.
