RR House
The RR House, a single family, two-story, home located east of the city of Zapopan, Jalisco, México.
The project was totally reconstructed using only the side walls of the former house, which was of very little architectural value. This approach lowers cost of ownership, improving economics, while the simplicity of design allows for privacy and spaciousness, yet allows for natural lighting and ventilation as well as climate control. The full use of space, particularly in the living areas, improves functionality, and the use of local, natural, materials as well as a local workforce, skilled in the use of these materials, provides exceptional quality.
Based on this simple principle, a clean structure covering the existing walls from side to side (open plan), creating a modular design at 1.00 meter with a foundation of steel beams and slab of jalcreto (very common construction system in Jalisco) is proposed.
Inside, brilliant dividing wooden walls with thermal and acoustic insulation contrast with polished pine floors and countertops, white walls, and blacksmith window frames. This range of pure tones presents an "honesty of materials" unique to this construction.
The concept is simple: an entrance and split level living room forms the central feature of the house, creating an interaction between areas, and high energy efficiency from cross ventilation and high ceilings. The different textures of the natural wood, brick, concrete and steel provide variety and contrast.
The floor plan comprises: on the ground floor or social area; garage, laundry, patio, dining room, kitchen, powder, a covered terrace and garden, taking advantage of the existing topography of the lot. On the second floor or private area; a bridge, the master bedroom with walk-in closet and master bathroom, a media room, two bedrooms and a shared bathroom.
