Modern agriculture building
The modern agriculture building in Veksø is visionary and innovative, not proposing a container hall, but rather a skin, that is pulled over a function. It is architecture, where the symbiosis between the building and surroundings is practically perfect.
As the winner of Realdanias competition of future agriculture building in an open landscape, Karlsson Architects proposed a building body that reconciles with the open landscape and differs from the traditional agriculture halls that stand out notably in the surrounding landscape.
The site is located in the nature conservation area, calling for a special attention in forming and providing a meaningful experience in the landscape when designing. After careful studies of volumes, measurements of the machinery and storage methods, the aim was to place and form the volume very precisely, in a way that would reduce the volume and therefore, the building would not dominate over the landscape. With that starting point, it was feasible to form a harmonious and simple building body, which in comparison with the other proposals is ca 25 % smaller in size.
The volume is cut into two, breaking its scale and allowing for a smart organization of the space. In the smaller unit, there is a workshop and a common room for the workers. In the bigger unit, there is a machine room and the storage. The service area in the middle can therefore be used for servicing the both sides.
The halls have steel frame construction and are covered with sinus plates. The gables of the volumes are of polycarbonate sheets.
