L'Envol, a space for sport and culture in Entzheim
This Alsatian complex of buildings hosts several sports and cultural associations thanks to various and welcoming spaces. This project also pays particular attention to its environmental impact.
L'Envol is a complex of buildings dedicated to sports and cultural associations in Entzheim (Alsace, France). Since its commissioning in May 2014, it has been welcoming different sports practices (including tennis thanks to a covered court), new rooms for the municipal school music and harmony as well as creative leisures. In addition to these various associations, l'Envol hosts a new space for teenagers, which consists of two multi-activity rooms. The whole complex has a gross floor area of nearly 3000 square meters.
The commitment to sustainable development is essential in this project and is reflected in many of its aspects.
First of all, the main volumes are made of wood, notably of larch, a naturally sustainable and locally sourced wood variety. Besides the C02 storing realised by this material, another advantage of a building partially made of wood is a cleaner process of construction.
Secondly, the landscape integration is carefully studied. The building volumes are fragmented to mitigate the mass effect, and the lowest and most highly visible roofs are covered in vegetation thanks to a semi-intensive system. Finally, the surroundings are mostly green spaces whereas asphalt surfaces are restricted. For instance, the cars are parked on an extension of the festival hall forecourt instead of on a classical parking lot.
With regard to thermal considerations, the building is equipped with reinforced isolation system to reduce energy costs and to prevent overheating in summer. The technical facilities and ventilation equipments are located as close as possible to the concerned spaces to shorten distances and thus, to reduce load losses.
Finally, the uniform and non-dazzling illumination aims at limiting the artificial light use thanks to light flows management and passive solar protections.
