The intention of this project was to transform this typical 60's chalet to extend it and make it more contemporary.
This project is both a renovation, an extension and a raising of the floor. In an attempt not to alter the structure of the original house, picking a light structure like a wood frame was the most obvious choice.
In the first place, a bedroom was added to the extension that was created North, on the ground floor. The site being rather sloping, this extension is settled on wood stilts, which make the house lighter.
The raising hosts a second bedroom, which takes its place upon the living room. This raising of the floor, standing along the existing chimney and made of a wood framework, allows the global volume of the house to be finished and simplified, making it straightforward.
The wood also came up as the silver line of the project, to give more coherence to it from the inside. Since it can be used inside just like outside, this light wood gives a unity to the project: storage areas were created, the kitchen was reworked on, an inside lining was added.
The bedroom which stands upon the living room is the origin of a new frontage trimming : two deep openings framing stunning views, the upper one on which you can read a book, and the bottom one which you can enjoy from the bed.
The wood spreading allows the global structure to be clear and the pre-existing elements are therefore valued by it.
