Conference Hall for a School
As an interior design project, one of the main information for our design is the structural system of the existing school building. We proposed to cover the existing columns and walls with another layer of material. Our concept for this project is simple: to utilize the volume between two layers: existing structural system and the finishing. In the foyer, finishing, a layer of plywood, not only covers but also provides extra space for the program such as cloakroom, technical room, and some sitting units carved from the walls. These units in the wall have different dimensions, regarding different age group of users of the school, where primary, secondary and high school sections exist.
Both for the hall and the foyer, we used three main finishing materials: Plywood, metal ceiling and textile. Built using leftover plywood slats in the hall, the walls define the boundaries of the space as well as creating acoustic surfaces. Opting for client’s will to have a seatless hall for maximizing its capacity, we developed a flexible scheme for the seating. Using anti-bacterial textile for the stairs, all seating area can also become a playground or a stage where children can perform.
