Reconstruction of Santa Cruz Church
Project of high complexity in construction and design terms. Its purpose is to rebuild the large space missing after the collapse of the church. From a constructive point of view, the complexity lays on the modification of traditional wall systems and the building of a new vault made of sized timber, which measures 19m at its base.
From the theoretical point of view, the design complexity is represented as an attempt to surpass the usual debate of ancient vs. modern in restoration works; the quest of a ‘styleless’ or timeless architecture, as a result of a balanced relationship among shape, construction and an ornamental language based on evocative elements rather than literal quotations.
